You will be surprised to know Sachin Tendulkar's connection with Shahid Afridi's fastest ODI century

Shahid Afridi's fearless batting style became the talk of the town when he blasted a 37-ball century against Sri-Lanka in October 1996. The lightening-fast knock was the then fastest ODI century and the flamboyant cricketer ruled this record for 17 years.

Not many people are aware of the fact that the right-handed batsman used master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's bat to play this memorable inning. Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis was the one who gave Tendulkar's bat to Afridi wishing that it would prove lucky for him as it belonged to a great player. Younis had received the bat as a gift from the Indian player.

Afridi launched the ball out of boundary 11 times for sixes and six times for fours to achieve the feat of hitting the fastest century.

His record was broken in January 2014 by New Zealand’s Corey Anderson. The current record holder is South African captain AB de Villiers, who smashed a 31-ball century against West Indies in 2015.
