Champions Trophy 2017: A Look at Virat Kohli-led team India

After concluding the fancied Indian Premier League, the defending champions, India has reached England.

India has to play its opening battle against arch-rival Pakistan on June 4. Men in Blue will play the other group matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa on June 8 and June 11 respectively.

The squad:

Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Dinesh Karthik.

In a bid to steal the glory once again, the Indian side will heavily bank upon its star players. The Virat Kohli-led brigade has around 10 days to get familiar with the climatic change in England. It will be a challenge for the players to adapt to the condition in the minimum time they have. The warm-up matches to be played at the end of this month will provide a significant chance to Indian players to get in a rhythm.

Things to worry About:

One of the major issues that must be plaguing the Indian side is the dropping form of skipper Kohli. India has majorly banked upon the runs scored by Kohli in mega tournaments but the captain failed miserably against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His poor show with bat continued in the tenth edition of IPL.

It is essential for India that its run-machine Kohli races back to his tremendous form to cement Indian chances of defending the title.

Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma did exceptionally well in the Champions Trophy tournament 2013. However, the duo failed to impress to a great extent recently. They both will be required to break the dry run spell and strike with grand force.

Things to look out For:

Indian line-up boasts of star players such as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ravi Ashwin and Jadeja. The bowling attack has been sharpened with the inclusion of players like Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had an amazing run in the recently concluded IPL.

Yuvraj Singh and Kedar Jadhav provide more depth to the already strong Indian batting line-up.

Special Focus on:

A special focus of the tournament will lie on MS Dhoni. Even though he is not going to lead the team now, his insights may prove beneficial to the captain. He doesn't not only gift a solid support to the lower batting order but is also magnificent behind the wickets.
