BCCI invites applications for new head coach. Why is the board unhappy with Anil Kumble?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun the process of looking out for a new head coach for team India as Anil Kumble's tenure as the chief coach will end after the Champions Trophy 2017 on June 18.

The board has clarified that Kumble is not getting an extension. However, he will be a direct entry for the process.

According to the rumours in the cricketing circle, even if India succeeds in defending the Champions trophy, Kumble will have only 50-50 % chances of getting retained as the coach.

Virat Kohli-led team India has performed exceptionally well under the guidance of Kumble but everything has not gone down well with the BCCI.

Apart from the performance, Kumble's conduct and attitude will also be taken into account.

Kumble's attempt of getting the Committee of Administrators involved in the functioning of the board seems to have irked the BCCI.

An official had asserted that one (Kumble) cannot keep trying to bypass the BCCI and contact COA for things which fall under the ambit of the board.

The former leg-spinner had approached the COA over the delay in the announcement of India's team for the Champions Trophy. His performance will be assessed both on and off the field. Indian squad was announced after missing the deadline of April 25 following the revenue sharing issues with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Today, BCCI invited applications for new coach through a release titled as 'Applications invited for the position of Head Coach for Indian Cricket Team (Men)'.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would like to call upon interested candidates to apply for the position of 'Head Coach' for Indian Cricket Team (Men)," the release said.

"To ensure a fair and completely transparent process, a nominee of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) will oversee the entire process along with the Cricket Advisory Committee," the release added.

The panel consists of former cricket players Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman to select a head coach.
