Former Pakistani
player Shahid Afridi had courted controversy on 3 April by raking up the sensitive
issue of Kashmir. His sharp comments drew massive flak from the Indian side
with many senior cricketers lashing out at Afridi.
Afridi
took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote about ‘violence’ in the
Kashmir, and had urged the United Nations to intervene and take stern actions
against India.
The former
all-rounder was later forced to face fierce criticism for his comments.
Indian
players like Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli didn’t shy away
from schooling Afridi as Afridi became the latest target of the internet troll
Army.
Taking note
of the boiling situation, Pakistani player Ahmad Shehzad declared his support
for Afridi with a tweet. He termed Afridi as Pakistan’s pride and posted, “When
this picture was being taken Lala insisted that the flag be held upright..as it
shld b. As neighbors v have rights toward each other n also responsibility 2
spread peace n love. It hurts me 2 c the way my Indian peers reacting to our
national hero..totally not cool.”
Shahzad was
referring to a time when Afridi had asked an Indian fan to hold the Indian flag
with dignity.
After his
tweet on Kashmir, Afridi had also shared this moment once again saying that “We
respect all. And this is an example as sportsman. But when it comes to human
rights we expect the same for our innocent Kashmiris.”
