The fans of Virender Sehwag all around
the country indulged in celebration when former explosive batsman
decided to apply for the job of Indian cricket team head coach. Even
though Sehwag was being considered as the front-runner for the post,
he was not selected by the Cricket Advisory Committee's (CAC)
comprising Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar.
The CAC went ahead with Ravi Shastri as
the head coach of Indian cricket team.
If the media reports are to be
believed, members of CAC concluded that Sehwag's presentation was the
third most impressive after Ravi Shastri and Tom Moody's.
Other factor that may have gone wrong
for Sehwag is that he wanted to go ahead with his team of support
staff.
Reportedly, the mentor with the IPL
team Kings XI Punjab had approached skipper Virat Kohli, who didn't
have any issues with Sehwag applying for the job, but the captain had
reservations about Sehwag's proposal of getting s staff team along
with him.
Kohli, reportedly, told Sehwag that,
"Paaji, I have a lot of respect for you for what you can bring
to the table but you have to understand that there is a professional
set-up in place, therefore this cannot happen. The rest is up to the
CAC. There is a support staff in place and has worked with this team
for a while now. In fact there are individuals who understand the
needs of team members on an individual basis."
Shastri has been appointed as the head
coach for next two years.
